Background of the Project

The project aims to improve peace and security in Nigerian communities within Benue and Nasarawa. This will be achieved through community capacity building, institutional strengthening, and cross-border collaboration. The project start-up phase includes a baseline study, community entry and advocacy, security assessments, and conflict scans to inform targeted interventions. Activities focus on empowering community members through training in conflict sensitivity and early warning systems, establishing and revitalizing local government level and state-level Peace Architecture Dialogues, and fostering collaboration amongst project stakeholders. The project also seeks to promote trust-building and social cohesion, through approaches such as sport activities between communities and security officials, media engagement for conflict-sensitive journalism, and community outreach. By fostering inclusive dialogue and enhancing security coordination, the project aims to improve perceptions of peace and security while building sustainable mechanisms for conflict resolution and prevention in the States.

Position Summary

The PAL Driver will provide logistical support to the Lafia and Makurdi office, working closely with the PAL Officer under the Coordination of the Senior PAL Officer of the office.

S/he will work under the direct supervision of the PAL Officer and closely with the finance and programs team. The position will provide movements in and around the states. The position will be based in Makurdi, Benue State and Lafia, Nassarawa State with field travels to the relevant communities

Duration: 17 months

Major duties and responsibilities

• Drive Search Project vehicle in a safe and courteous manner to convey authorized staff, visiting partners etc. for project activities
• Ensure the vehicles and cleaned and ready before movement outside the office premises
• Ensures vehicle documents are up to date and comply with minimum security operating standards (MSOS)
• Provide timely report to the Administrative officer in charge and Heads of Offices of the vehicle requiring maintenance service
• Record every trip detail in the vehicle logbook including filling of the monthly balance tracker logs for fuel
• Carryout daily maintenance of project vehicle (cleaning and regular check-up)
• Checks weekly vehicle schedule for the office (missions, transport needs), prepares necessary plans/arrangements and reports any changes
• Loading and unloading goods into the vehicle and ensures their security and condition while in the vehicle
• Carry out airport pick or drop off for visiting staff.
• Oversee vehicle repairs
• Maintain office logs on travel, inventory and fuel usage for generators, vehicles etc.
• Prepare travel arrangements and any necessary travel materials
• Prepare and submit a monthly logistics report about the above to the Procurement, Admin and Logistics Senior Officer.
• Any other function required to undertake broadly in line with above functions.

Qualifications

Education

Minimum of OND/HND with valid drivers’ license with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience performing related role in an international organization.

Required Experience

• Ability to speak in one or more of northern Nigeria’s major languages is an added advantage.
• Evidence of Defensive drivers training would be an advantage
• Demonstrated commitment to teamwork in a fast-paced work environment, 
• Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to meet prescribed and self-imposed deadlines, 
• Experience working in an NGO or civil society is a plus
• Experience working with little or minimal supervision

Other Relevant Requirements

• Resident in Lafia or Makurdi
• Valid driver’s license available
• Ability to speak local language widely spoken in operational area
• Good in English (oral and written)
• Proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines; team player and effective communicator, 
• IT skills (Email, Microsoft Office applications, Google Drive, Google Docs, Sheets, Presentation).
  Good reporting capacity and experience would be an advantage
• Ability to function effectively under stressful conditions such as heavy workloads, and deadlines.
