Job Summary

The Senior Associate – Marketing, Events & Communication will lead the development and execution of AFC's external communications, media engagement and executive visibility strategy. The role oversees flagship events, global stakeholder convenings, reputation and crisis communications, digital communications and content strategy, internal communications and leadership messaging, and agency and vendor management. The role is responsible for strengthening AFC's brand positioning, deepening stakeholder engagement and enhancing visibility across African and global markets.

Key Responsibilities

External Communications, Media Engagement & Executive Visibility

  • Develop and execute a proactive media engagement strategy.
  • Position the President & CEO and senior leadership as thought leaders through speaking engagements, media interviews, op-eds and high-profile appearances.
  • Ensure consistent messaging across external platforms.
  • Monitor and analyse media coverage and provide insights to leadership.

Events & Stakeholder Convenings

  • Lead the planning and execution of AFC's flagship events, annual meetings, forums and stakeholder convenings.
  • Ensure events strengthen stakeholder relationships and deliver measurable impact.

Reputation & Crisis Communications

  • Monitor and safeguard AFC's reputation.
  • Develop and maintain crisis communication plans.
  • Lead communications during crises.

Digital Communications

  • Develop and implement digital communication strategies including social media, website enhancements and email campaigns.
  • Oversee the creation and performance of multimedia content.

Broader Communications Activities

  • Draft press releases, reports and thought leadership pieces.
  • Prepare speeches, presentations and communication materials for senior leadership.
  • Manage media relations and journalist engagement.
  • Identify opportunities for conferences, webinars and thought leadership activities.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Tailor messaging for investors, governments and community stakeholders.
  • Develop narratives around sustainability and climate initiatives.


Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or related discipline.
  • 8–10 years' experience in events management, communications or related roles.
  • Experience gained within finance, infrastructure, development finance or environmental sectors preferred.
