The Senior Pharmacy Technician provides advanced technical support to pharmacists while ensuring the efficient day-to-day operation of the pharmacy. The role includes medication dispensing, inventory oversight, supervision of junior staff, quality assurance activities, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately prepare, label, and dispense medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Review prescriptions for completeness and identify discrepancies before pharmacist verification.
  • Coordinate daily dispensing activities to ensure timely service delivery.
  • Oversee inventory management, including procurement requests, stock reconciliation, expiry monitoring, and storage.
  • Perform regular inventory audits and investigate stock discrepancies.
  • Supervise, mentor, and provide guidance to junior pharmacy technicians and support staff.
  • Ensure adherence to pharmacy policies, standard operating procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in implementing quality improvement and medication safety initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate dispensing, inventory, and patient records.
  • Support pharmacists during clinical services, vaccination programs, and health campaigns where applicable.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare professionals to ensure efficient patient care.
  • Participate in staff orientation and on-the-job training for new team members.
  • Identify operational challenges and recommend process improvements to enhance pharmacy efficiency.


Requirements

  • Diploma or recognized qualification in Pharmacy Technician studies.
  • Valid registration or license with the relevant regulatory authority (PCN).
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital, retail, or community pharmacy.
  • Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical products, dispensing procedures, and medication safety practices.
  • Proven experience in inventory management, stock reconciliation, and pharmacy operations.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring junior staff is an added advantage.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain composed, exercise sound judgment, and prioritize tasks effectively in high-pressure environments.
  • Proficiency in pharmacy management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to patient safety.
